Our
approach to dog training is based in
teaching humane and effective techniques
to both dogs and their owners, or handlers.
With over thirty years of experience,
Lorenzo’s Dog Training Team has developed
training
programs to fit every need from police
and security dogs, to beloved family
pets. Our training style incorporates
the proven and accepted principles
of balance and positive influence.
Our certified, professional trainers
possess a genuine love for dogs and
a commitment to improving the relationships
between dogs and their owners.
Evaluate
In most cases, we begin our training programs with a one-on-one evaluation, either at our facility, or preferably, in your home. This involves a question-and-answer session, an opportunity to hear your story to discover the individual needs of you and your dog, and careful observation of your dog's behavior. At this point, it is particularly important for our trainer to observe your dog's interaction with you and other family members. Since all of our training programs are custom designed to meet your specific needs, the evaluation process is a critical first step to achieving serious results.Unlike pet store training, we do not offer group classes prior to our basic obedience courses. Our tailored coursework will address the issues observed during your dog's behavioral evaluation. Over a minimum of five, weekly sessions, you and your dog will learn incredible new ways to interact with one another that will be mutually rewarding, yet seriously effective. During each session, you will have continued opportunities to discuss the training and your further observations.
Educate
Professional dog training is essential to help dogs behave in ways that
humans find acceptable, help keep them safe, and provide for the safety of
people and other animals. Due to our extensive knowledge of breeds
and our understanding of typical canine behavior, we can confidently identify your dog's primary behavorial issues and help you to better understand your dog.
Quite often, dogs are not fully responsible for some of their undesirable behavior. Many times, their owners unknowingly contributed to their situations, either by over-punishing, creating unnecessary stress, or simply by not gaining their dog's respect.
We educate dog owners during the training process so that they can address their own behavior and modify their actions to correct the situation.
Communicate
The most successful dog training programs boil down
to effective and consistent communication.
Dog owners are taught to communicate to their
dogs which behaviors are desirable, and which
ones are
incorrect and undesirable. Since dogs are pack
animals and are highly social, they respond
very well to classic conditioning.
We do not
employ the use of clickers, toys, or food rewards.
Correct, desired
behaviors are reinforced through positive influence
and physical praise. Incorrect behaviors are
ignored, which teaches dogs to try another
behavior to elicit the praise that they seek.
At certain points, nearly all
dogs will test their handlers' dominance. They
may intentionally disobey a command or display
undesired behaviors that will require corrections.
Our corrections range from stern, verbal language,
such as "NO!", to leash corrections that are delivered quickly and
humanely, accompanied by a verbal command.
We never administer any types of physical punishment.
Punishing dogs that may not understand what
is being asked of them is both unfair and inhumane.
We recommend beginning training with your puppy at eight weeks of age. This is the prime time for your dog to learn training principles, as well as human social skills.
Consistency
and patience is crucial for any
training to be successful. We teach owners
the importance of patiently, and consistently,
communicating to their dogs.
We also teach owners how to understand and interpret their dog's efforts to communicate with them. This is important because dogs that are stressed, overly excited, nervous, or fearful may not properly respond to training. If dog owners are unable to recognize these emotions in their dogs, they may begin to feel frustrated or impatient, which will further complicate the training process.
